Holt Engine
This six cylinder Holt engine was built for the U.S. army during World War I. It has a
7 1/2" x 8" bore and stroke and develops 120 horsepower at 550 rpm. This is the same engine
that was used to power the Holt tractors built for the American and British Armies for moving
heavy artillery. 676 tractors and were built, but only two survived until today. This is
the only power unit engine known to remain. It was owned and used for years by L.A.D.W.P.
After it was retired, it went to Traveltown, from which it was acquired by the Antique Gas &
Steam Engine Museum. The restoration work was done by Virgil White, George Hood, Bill
Rohr, Pat Mackin, and Richard Eckert.
