1931 Diamond T Asphalt Surface Heater
The Los Angeles Department of Public Works bought this truck new in 1931 and kept it in service through 1954. With early road repair and resurfacing, the surface of the road had to be heated to remove built up layers of asphalt. The large box on the bed of the truck encloses a winch and fuel tank for the heating unit that hangs from the rear of the truck. Note the solid rubber tires and the wooden wheels. Donated to the Museum by the Travel Town Museum, Los Angeles, CA.
